Benefits Of Shoulder Rivets
Shoulder rivets join work-piece materials together while permitting joint rotation or slide and stop points on assemblies. These versatile fasteners are an ideal solution for high-speed assembly and are adaptable to automation. Shoulder rivets result in a permanent hold and are a cost-effective alternative to threaded fasteners. They can be used to fasten similar or different materials together. Rivet clinches can be roll-clinched, spun, flared, or press clinched. Once riveted into place, the shoulder can be pressed into keyway holes with a rubber mallet.
What Are Shoulder Rivets Used For?
The shoulder of the rivet acts as a bearing surface when the rivet shank is clinched tight to the non-rotating part of the work piece(s). Shoulder rivets can act as slides, stops or guide points for assembled workpieces. On bolt-less shelving units, the shoulder portion of the rivet is press-fit into a “keyway hole” on the upright leg of the shelf to form a strong removable joint. Riveted workpieces are most often joined together by impacting or compressing the shank end of the rivet with a crimping die (rivet anvil).
