Stainless Steel Custom Rivets
At Valley Fastener Group, we specialize in customized stainless steel fasteners, which are manufactured across our three facilities in Aurora, IL; Elyria, OH; and Naperville, IL. The customization process begins with careful engineering based on the client’s operational specifications. We look at the desired corrosion-resistance characteristics, tensile strength, thermal profile, and process environment to determine the ideal stainless steel grade.
We cold-work stainless steel 18-8 grades to enhance hardness and toughness. Cold-forming contributes to tight tolerances in fastener size, length, thread profile, and drive head. This helps manufacturers comply with quality and safety standards while improving process efficiency, extending the life of products, and lowering overall costs.
Stainless Steel Grades and Applications
Stainless steel fasteners often use 18-8 stainless steel, an austenitic alloy with 18% chromium and 8% nickel. We work extensively with the following grades:
- Type 304: The most common stainless steel for commercial and industrial applications, 304 is a general-purpose alloy with excellent ductility, weldability, and corrosion resistance.
- Type 302: A higher carbon content (0.15%) enhances the corrosion resistance of this alloy for specific organic and reducing acids.
- Type 316: Molybdenum gives this high-performance alloy greater corrosion resistance, especially against seawater chlorides.
We work closely with customers to recommend the correct stainless steel fastener profile for product needs. Type 302 is common in food and beverage manufacturing and consumer appliances, while type 316 is ideal for coastal environments and resisting moderately aggressive chemicals.
All Types of Stainless Steel Fasteners
The 300-series of stainless steel offers high formability and machineability, which allows for a wide variety of fastener types, thread configurations, drive sockets, and head styles. We manufacture all standard and specialized types of stainless steel fasteners, such as:
- Rivets: Solid, semi-tubular, blind, shoulder, collar, extra-long, self-clinching, brake lining, and countersunk styles.
- Screws and bolts: Machine screws, cap screws, security fasteners, metric screws, flange bolts, SEMS, weld studs, clenching studs, and U-drive fasteners.
- Head styles: Indented hex, Torx, button, fillister, truss, pan, round, countersunk, and combination.
Stainless steel bolts and machine screws are popular because they present an attractive appearance even when visible. They’re a good choice for consumer-facing goods, sanitary environments, healthcare facilities, and building construction accents.
